Sleepy chows?
Jul 22nd, 2010 at 2:21am

Do all chows really prefer to just lie around and sleep as much as possible?  When I try t play with Moonlight, she just sort of walks away and goes back to sleeping.  She has her times of play, but they're few and far between.  I thought Shadow slept that much because he was older, but Moonlight sleeps or lazes just as much.  Is this the norm?

Hi Ef!

I think chows are normally lazy and sleep a lot Smiley  my first chow was very lazy and didn't play much.  It's also summer, and hot, so that may be why moonlight is tired and being lazy. Cocoa sleeps a lot too, but I think it's because of the weather. But if I want her to play with me, she usually doesn't pass up on it Smiley   I guess it's because I give her treats... I bribe her HAHA!!   Grin Grin Grin

Molly isn't a big player either. It has been very hot this summer, and she seems to be more frisky in the cooler weather. She loves to take walks, though.

Hi Ef--,

Like with humans ...Chow Chows differ in character....
Even now it is very hot in Holland the two girls (Xiong and Hanna) love to play....
Of course we are cautious...... since dogs have limitations on sweating and overheat can easily happen these days...

Chows are like lions.
Alert for 3-4 hours and sleeping the remaining 20 hours.

She loves to play with other dogs.  When my son is here with is dachshund, the two go non-stop, and we have to bring them indoors out of the heat.  But I feel better hearing others say that chows do laze a lot.  I imagine she'll perk up again in the cool autumn.

Thanks, everyone, for making me feel so much more relieved.
