Food for Chows
Mar 6th, 2010 at 9:50pm

Today I captured some deeds from our four furkids.
This time it was all about food....
Look how eager they are to get a good portion.
Normally they get kibbles and sometimes in addition some potatoes or rice with some meat.
They love it.....
Anyway....
Enjoy Shadow... see how impatient Kiang and Hanna are.... See Xiong patiently waiting in the kitchen..
Hear the noises...
See also Kiang who loves to eat raw carrot....

is that a snack you gave them or is their meal?? it doesn't look like they feel they got enough :p  Do they not all eat together?  hanna was so cute.  jumping up to get her portion.  and i think it was xiong (the smooth one?) that just sat their eating!  the rest were standing.  so funny.

Hi Lisa--,

The Chows at our place get twice a day their food.
The menu mainly consists of kibbles of a good quality and from a reputable manufacturer.
With the afternoon menu there is often an 'extra', which is freshly prepared.
As carboyhydrate source this is either <boiled> rice or cooked potatoes and as protein source this is (horse) meat (cooked with water).
What you see in the video is rice and meat as the 'second' course..... Wink
You see how eager they are with the food!

It is always better to keep them seperated when it is feeding time. In our case that means that Kiang is eating in the garage. Hanna in the hall. Normally Shadow en Xiong get it in the living, but they are kept on a distance from each other.

wow!  2 meals a day?  gee....cocoa only gets it once a day.  she's never as excited are your chows are with her food.  as a pup when i got her, she was crazy over meal time.  she'd bark and jump up and down until you put the bowl down.  now, it's like "oh, dinner already? i'll see how i feel tonight....i'll just eat a quarter of it, and i think i'll save the rest for later...."  I feed good quality food. she's just picky.  i alternate kibble and raw. one day kibble, next day raw.  i don't know what's with my chows.  My first chow was even worse!  she was so picky she was actually on the underweight side.  but the vet said dogs are like people. some are skinny and some are not.  i tried to feed her 2x a day, but she wouldn't eat.  my chows think they are human.  i don't think they'd complain if i "invited" them to the dinner table and ate the same thing i was eating.  HAHA!

Hi Peter,

Nice to see those spoiled Dutch Chows, here it was
always the same, eating a la carte Grin Grin Grin ; together
twice a day.
But I only had one boy, Pandi, and he had ofcourse his
own harem, his three girls.
he was the sweetest and patient Chow you can have,
I think like your Kiang.

Greetings from Ted

aw!  that's so cute!  all 4 eating together...3 big one and one baby one.  haha...such a fun picture.  wait until the little one grows up and he'll get a food bowl stand just for himself.  (is the puppy a boy or a girl?)

Hi Lisa,

The picture is taken a long time ago, the pup grew out
into a beautiful young girl named Brill-Lao-Saira. She was
my own breed, so was her sister, Anhwa Li-Li and Mu-Chin
was there mother.
My four Chows were eating, living and sleping together, but
all gone to the rainbow bridge.
Right now I have no Chow, Lynne died four months ago.
But maybe this summer there is new Chowlife in the
house again.
Greetings from Holland and Ted, a Kissto Cocoa.

Love the video and am astonished at the speed Kiang can eat!

Bramble too is a carrot loving chow and one day my son left the fridge open but she ignored the butter, cheese and ham and ate only half a lettuce and a whole bag of carrots.  The carrots came up again and when I returned from work she tried to run round eating the evidence!

What a beautiful family of chows you have! Wink

I loved the video! They are all such good eaters. Molly gets fed 3 times a day because of a stomach acid problem. The vet felt her meals should be given in smaller portions 3 times a day to keep something in her stomach. It seems to be helping, as well as an antacid tablet once a day. She is pickier too, so I am always looking for treats to help make it more interesting!
