To me the coats shown in this topic seem to be 'roan'.
Roan in dogs, as far as I am informed, is a dominant factor.
Several gundog breeds have this coat pattern - Large Munsterlander, Cocker Spaniel, etc - as well as the Australian Cattle dog, for instance.
The fact that a dog with Chow or Shar Pei traits shows this coat would be, for me, the proof that it is a crossbred.
