Hi Lissette!

That sounds like a good plan!  I don't think that I dare do it myself though, so may take them both along to the groomers.  I will take a picture of your Romy with me so they know what I mean!  By the way, Romy is absolutely GORGEOUS!!  I just want to pick her up and cuddle her so tightly!!

Hi Peter!

Thanks for the good advice!  I know what you mean, and this is why I don't want to keep shampooing them all the time as I know it's not good for their skin.  It doesn't really bother Mika when she's wet underneath, but little Suki scratches all the time, so it is obviously affecting her more.  Hopefully this new bowl will do the trick, and if there is any kind of excess water dripping onto their fur, I should be able to dry it quite easily with a towel.

Who is the beautiful chow in your picture?  He or she is very handsome!  Did you cut under his/her chin too?

Hi Nicki,
Thanks for the compliments on Romy.
I think a groomer will know what you mean, certain when you explain the reason why.
The advice youíve got with shaving is probably meant in the same way as I explained to cut it. That is also done, but when you donít have the experience to shave and also not the chow, you can end up with a lot more shaved off than planned!!!
For me it is easy talking about shaving and cutting because I am a groomer my self and had a grooming salon for dogs several years.

I think what Peter meant is when it is already red and this can only get worse by the water and by hair sticking together, then you cut the hair away on that spot.
So that nature can do his work is that the air can reach the spot dry it and heal.
Not all chows have this, Iíve got a brother of Romy and he was always dry!!
Romy is more spilling the water, let it go out of her mouth instead of swallow it.
And I see often even when you groom them properly the wet puppy coat can cause irritating on the skin.
The bowl helps and the cutting helps but depending on the puppy it will not always completely stay dry.
There is no way you can stop them to let go the water out of their mounth!!†

Hi Nicki, Shirley,
I forgot to mansion, there are 2 different materials for the bowl. One is plastic and the other is steel, they both work the same.
Only the puppies (some adults too) like to chew on the top of the plastic ones and will ruin it.
A long time here were just the plastic ones, Iíve got a steel one now and like it better.
It is also a handy bowl to take with you in the car, it is a non spilling bowl.

Hi Lissette,

When I ordered the bowl it didn't give me the option of whether I wanted a plastic one or a steel one, so I'm presuming by the picture that I will receive the plastic one.  Suki will probably chew it as she's into chewing everything at the moment!  But Mika will probably leave it alone!  I'll let you know how I get on anyway!

Thanks again!

Hi Nicky, sorry for my late respons.

All my Chows were drinking from the same waterbowl †as
yours. The blacksmith was making the standards, but very
special was the steel lid. It just covered the bowl, the openining
is 12 centimeters. They can drink, but the chin keeps dry.
On the picture the bowl and lid are seperated, because mom
was drinking milk at that moment from a small bowl. The lid
has three small clips, to avoid falling down.
Happely Lynne is a very clean drinker, so I don't use the
lid for her. But when ever she has a wet chin I first dry it
with a towel and then the hairdryer.

I think every blacksmith can make it and you can use the
bowls on your pics..

Greetings from Holland, Ted and Lynne

Hi Nicky,

No this is not my Lynne, that was my bitch Lao-Mu-Chin Kwei-Jang,
born in 1994. †Lynne is from the same well known breeder in Holland.

The little boy was from my own second litter. Now is he is not so little
anymore, an oldy from 10.5 years, but still going strong Smiley Smiley Smiley
His nickname is Boef, knave. In Holland it means naughty boy Grin Grin

Greetings from Ted

Hi Nicky,

Boef is born in 1998, the picture has taken in 2006 and
yes he is still alive. So are two sisters, Bella and Baila.

Yes Sirley he looks indeed like your beloved Khan, he
only has a white tail and behind Grin Grin. I am still shocked
that Khan isn't there anymore. I always said, he looks like
my beloved Pandiboy.

Greetings from Ted and Lynnechow.

Hi everyone!

Well, just thought that I would let you know that the new 'Road Refresher Bowl' arrived this morning, and what a difference already!!! †Suki is only slightly wet underneath her chin, but Mika is completely dry as she can't fit any of her fur in there when she's drinking! †What a relief!!! †I am just about to go online and buy another one, but wanted to let you all know that for anyone suffering with the same problem, these come highly recommended!!!

Shirley - Thanks again for finding these little gems for me!!! †They're brilliant!!!

Nicki so glad they worked.
Ted,
I know life isn't the same without Khan.He was my big softy.
Saying that he I could walkanywhere anytime and know he would protect me.
He is the only chow I have ever had who used to give kisses.
He used to try to give the judges in the show ring a kiss.
Even the night he was so poorly when we rushed him to the vets he tried to give the vet a kiss.
He was always in computer room with me at night.
