i know this is not sticking to the subject but another thing to take into account i think is when you go to see a litter and everyone looks for the puppy that comes forward and plays, but what happened to me quite a few years ago was a puppy that hid in the corner and would not come see any one and all brothers and sisters where sold and she was left behind we where not going to buy that day just look {as we feel you should go see as many litters as you can to expand your knowlege as much as you can right from they are babys] we watched this lady with the litter playing with the others  she never had a litter before we asked about the little girl in the background and where told :cant sell her no one wants her  we took her home there and then she never did come around with adults BUT her secret was with childred with sp needs in a little school just down the road from where we live  she was frighted of ----people ,cars , travel,  didnt leave the house only to see the children she turned out to be the most beautfull shaded red  shape ,coat , everything  but a brain that was playing tricks on her every day of her sweet life she died a few years ago now Cry Cry but i like to think we gave her a chance to shine with the children when no one else would so re;; puppy or old chow for me it doesnt matter  you help where you are needed and somehow we always find them or they find us  we will aways be there just incase there is another little girl or boy out there  Sad

This is a great story, Teddy. I'm glad you gave this girl a chance, and I'll bet the children whose lives she touched are, too.

BB was supposed to be a year old when we got her.  She was from the regular county pound so no fostering or anything.  She had been running as a stray, and was pregnant when they picked her up.  I feel like she was actually older.  They chose 1 because her teeth were pretty clean.  She started getting gray in her muzzle when she was supposed to have been 4 or 5.  Anyway, she came to us not knowing anything at all.  Potty training was fairly easy except she had submissive peeing issues.  You could look at her wrong and she would pee.  She definitely bonded with us, never bit us or anything like that, and learned some commands.

Again with my affenpinscher, he was supposed to be between 9 months and a year and was hugely more of a pain then BB.  Not only was he hard to potty train, but he chewed everything in sight (walls and furniture included).  He had been fostered and was from a no kill rescue, but also knew no commands.  He is quite a good dog now (almost a year later).

The funny thing with BB is that she learned things from Alfie.  She never in her life figured out how to push open a door.  He figured it out, and since he came, she learned it from him.  He also decided that his signal for going out was to get my attention and sit down.  She figured that out too.

I think my ideal is to go for a year old-ish so I know what the personality is going to be like.
